Departments or Programs with students who have proposed honors thesis project that has associated costs.

If the department or program does not have adequate funding for all thesis projects in their major(s), they may submit a request for additional funding to their respective associate dean's office. Departments/Programs are responsible for collecting the following information associated with the costs to their major department or program.

• Thesis proposal
• Itemized budget
• Thesis advisor's approval of the budget

The additional funding request must include the following.

1. A spreadsheet with a list of all thesis writers along with the name of their faculty mentor, the title of their project, and the budget approved by the department or program for the project.
2. A summary document providing a rationale for requested funding, which includes details of the funding allocated by the department or program.
3. The thesis proposals and budgets that were submitted by the students.

Requests for honors thesis funding by students with special majors will be sent directly to the Associate Dean for International and Interdisciplinary Programs.

If requesting Dean of Faculty funds, please submit the application (spreadsheet and summary document) from your department or program on the following deadlines, which occur during the sixth week of the term.

May 6, 2026 (for summer term research)

August 5, 2026 (for fall term research)

October 21, 2026 (for winter term research)

February 10, 2027 (for spring term research)

May 7, 2027 (for summer term research)

Should the Dean of Faculty decide to provide support at any level, the funds will be given as a block grant. If all students will not be fully funded, it will be up to the department/program to allocate unit & DOF funding to students. 

Senior Honor Thesis Funding is administered by the Arts and Sciences Office of Finance and Administration (A&S OFA). The department or program administrator will be the responsible account holder for the fund.

If your department or program receive Dean of Faculty funds, we also ask that your chair submit a short report by October 1st of each year showing senior honors thesis expenses by student, including budget, funding source, and unspent balance for the prior academic year.
